- Is the online bird identifier really free?
- Yes. You can identify birds from this page with no account and no download. The free result is the most likely species name and its group. The full report, with plumage, range, voice, habitat, migration, and field marks, is in the Bird Identifier app.
- How accurate is AI bird identification from a photo?
- It is a strong first guess, not a confirmed sighting. Plumage changes with age, sex, and season, many species look alike, and a photo cannot show size, behavior, or voice. Treat the result as a starting point and verify important identifications with a field guide or an ornithologist.
- What kind of photo works best?
- Good light, a sharp focus on the bird, and the bird filling as much of the frame as possible. A side view that shows the head, bill, wings, and tail gives the model the most to work with; crop in on the bird if it is small in the picture.
- Can it identify birds in flight, chicks, or captive birds?
- Yes. Perched, swimming, and flying birds, juveniles, and captive or domestic birds are all in scope. Feathers on their own, eggs, toys, and other animals are flagged as not a bird.
